Is it possible to become pregnant while using/on contraceptives like the pill, IUD and mirena?

Hi @mak_trouble891, the answer is yes, however the risk is very, very low. The combined oral contraceptive is 99.7% effective with perfect use, however is only 92% effective with typical use. That’s because its common to forget daily doses and there may be interactions with other medications that reduce its effectiveness. With an intrauterine device (IUD) and Mirena it’s more effective at 99.2-99.9%. The good news is that some IUDs and Mirena can last up to 5-10 years. Longer Acting Reversible Contraceptives (LARCS), such as hormonal implants are a more reliable option these days. Click here for more info.
